Research and Planning: Designing an ESting

For my E4 Esting, I am going to use a combination of stop motion animation and computer animation. I will begin by using a person to start off by walking towards an amp and plugging in an aux lead which will then look over to a table where Lego bricks will be bouncing up and down looking like an audio waveform. after a few seconds of the waveform bouncing to the beat, the camera will then go forwards through it and will reveal the E4 logo which will be made of legos and then change to a computer animation of the purple and white E4 logo on a white and purple background. For the setting, I will use a low light room with a wood table. There will be one light shining over in order to create a strong contrast of shadows and highlights. I will use the green screen room in college and will use the light boxes in the room to create the tense lighting. The only problems that may occur is acquiring the Lego colors that will be used throughout the animation of the logo and the waveform, and also making the waveform in sync with the song that I will be using. The Lego must be purchased by our teacher Ellie specifically for our production as normal Lego does not come in purple and white, which means that we will most likely have to buy purple and white Lego separately. Another problem that may occur would be trying to get the audio waveform to be synced up with the Lego bricks that I will be using. I am going to try and import the song into after effects and create an audio waveform and then copy the movements with the Lego bricks. The target audience for my ESting is going to be males between the ages of 16-30. The reason why my target audience is 16-30, is because of the maturity level of my ESting will be more designed to focus on that age group as possibly anyone younger will not be able to understand it as well as my target audience's age group. This the same reason why for the gender of my target audience as the narrative of my ESting will be understood by males much more than females as females are more mature than males, but the females are the secondary target audience for it as well because the animal used in the stop motion animation would be found to be "cute" by females as they like the look of farm yard animals. This will not discriminate against any kinds of race, religion or ethnicity. I have looked at my target audience demographically and as this animation is being uploaded to YouTube it doesn't target any particular section of household income as it is not very difficult to acquire access to the internet or YouTube. The only restrictions on this ESting would be if it were to be shown on TV, there are some households with too low of an income which may not be able to afford a TV or a licence for it. I have also looked into geographical location which is again useful however, that is not a factor that will affect the viewings of this production as it is being distributed over a free platform that allows users to view others uploaded videos. This means that geographical location will no longer be needed to take into account or will affect the target audience. There are also no real locations in this video which means that no one would be offended as likely as if I were to use locations such as the Twin Towers or Iraq which may be seen as a lot more offensive. Thinking psycho-graphically there are a wide spread of elements throughout my video which would appeal to a persons interests. An example of this would be my locations for my animations. I have chosen a variety of different backdrops to keep my animation interesting such as a sunny beach, a storm, a hill
and a nightclub. This will appear appealing to a larger audience instead of just using a nightclub setting which may only apply to a small group of people who have interests in going to nightclubs. I am also using Lego in order to make my animation which will also appeal to a larger audience as Lego has been around for peoples childhoods for the past decade which means that kids that are at a current age of being young and even the people that used it when they were children will have an interest in the material alone without the animation. This may cause their behaviour and attitude to be a bit more open minded in regards to viewing this ESting.

Live action:

For this, we decided to try and create a bottle flip video in which a bottle would be thrown by one person and it would flip enough times to go through many different situations and do an impossible journey through the college and land upright. We later realized that it would be hard to get the perfect angle of the bottle and instead just threw a bottle and had it travel around the college without flipping and as a result came out a lot better and more accurate to what we were doing.

Lego:

This is the draft version of my finished ESting in which I had made parts of my ESting but had not made the final changes to make it fit for the brief.  Below this is the Lego video which we made in order to practice our Lego animation and perfect them. This was useful for my production as my production was a Lego animation. The video at the very bottom is the finished version of my ESting, I added in some more elements of animation and made sure they were a lot more fitting for the brief. I added in some clouds to be able to add more of an animation element alongside making it a lot shorter so that it fits the brief well.
