The Package Evaluation
Summary
The final production came out rather well and we met the criteria on most of the specifications. The only differences we made from the specifications were that we used a couple more shots than 20 and we ended up using two camera movements instead of one. We were originally going to use the one movement; the contra-zoom. When we began filming we realised how hard it would be to actually film a contra-zoom, so instead, we decided to use a panning movement. Further on in the project after we had finished filming, we were notified that having a shaky cam (POV) would be classed as another camera movement and instead had to use 2 camera movements. Although we did not meet all of the specifications, the overall product came out not as good as expected but still was satisfactory. I had originally planned when editing that i would use some of my own stocks and plugins however, i was informed we would only be editing this on college property therefore a lot of the VFX and editing was not as good as expected and i had to make do with worse online stocks in lower quality and no plugins so i had to also make do with the stock effects and presets. In this project i learnt a lot about shutterspeed, aperture and how to manually adjust a camera's settings.
Lighting
We used the lighting in this shot to highlight the better person and also works to show that kai is meant to be dark in this scene. The darkness on kai reflects his personality for this production as he is meant to be a bad character to tries to kill luca in this scene. Also the contrast in shades from the both of them shows they are two completely different characters. For this shot we just opened a higher window and let the sunlight come through instead of using artificial lighting.
High and Low Angles
We used high and low camera angles throughout this whole project and it came out rather well. At the start of the video, we used it so that you could see the phone and the receiving of the text message. However, we also used the high and low angles further throughout the production to show strength and weakness. To get these higher and lower angles we lowered or extended the tripod legs so that it would either be lower or higher. We used a low shot for when luca gets up after the explosion from the bomb which shows that as he is standing up, he is a strong person. We used the camera in a handheld mode so we could get more realism in the turn rather than just a simple pan turn. When we did this, the camera was held at a lower angle so that it would make luca seem higher when we jumps and make kai look smaller as luca is a lot higher and this shows power and dominance.
Shot Distances
For the production of this video, we used various shot angles and distances. The majority of the shot distances were medium shots as it was focused around characters. When we needed to catch the persons face or emotions we used a close up or and extreme close up. For getting close ups, we would use the zoom as much as possible to make the FOV lower and give it a more tense feeling and as that was the vibe behind the video, it worked well.
Camera Movements
In this video, we had originally planned to only do 1 camera movement and stick to the brief specifications however during the production this changed. We planned to only have a contra zoom when luca found out it was a bomb, however we found out later on that a POV shot when moving is also another camera movement so we then had to use two instead. When we tried to create a contra zoom we realized how hard it would be and that we did not have the correct equipment to be able to make the contra zoom flow as well as expected to we had to cut the contra zoom out. We later replaced the camera movement with a pan at the end with another POV shot of kai turning into a flying punch from luca. When we used a running POV shot down the corridor we found that it would be better if we just held the camera facing forward and ran with the camera to give it that certain amount of realty.
Fades and Dissolves
For this video we didn't use any dissolves as there were no passing's of time or need to use dissolves. However, we did use fades on the start to slowly bring in the opening shot. Alongside the fade, we also added on a key-framed blur on the opacity fade in so that it gives it a more fluid and nicer overall looking fade. We didn't use a fade at the end as instead we used a title fly at the screen. We figured as this video was meant to be tense we may as well have a tense ending as well.
180 Degree Rule
We stayed in the guidelines very well when it came to the 180 degree rule as we fully understood how confusing it is when people do not stick to the 180 degree rule. We used the 180 degree rule when we had a stare down between both luca and kai so that it could show the tension although there was no dialogue. We also stayed in the 180 degree rule when we exchanged the package so that there was no confusion.
Establishing Shots
We used an establishing shot to show that this video was recorded in the college. This also shows the surrounding and establishes the surrounding and creates a mood for the video. We only used one establishing shot as we had to make this video in under 20 shots however, i feel if we had more shots we would add in some more and do some re-establishing shots as at the end when kai and luca ran out of the college, it makes no sense how they got there. If there was a shot showing the outside and where they ran from at the start or at some other point in the video it may make a lot more sense.
Match Cuts on Action
We used a few match on actions when we were doing important actions that would affect the story line. We used a match on action at the start when luca receives the text so that we would be able to switch to the view of the iPhone so the text he received would be visible to the viewers. We also used a match on action later on in the video when kai shuts the door so that it gives of an ominous vibe and makes it seem like hes shutting him in. This shows that there's something that's about to happen and makes it an important part in the plot. We also did a match on action for luca falling to the floor and when he goes to stand up.
Eye line Match Cut
Throughout all of this project, we only made two eyeline match cuts. We used an eyeline match cut at the start when luca looks at his phone and he receives a text. We also used an eyeline match on the bomb after we did an extreme close up on his eye. We used the eyeline match to show what he was
seeing and create tension as it implies theres something wrong with the package,
POV Shots
We used a good few POV shots throughout the project in a subtle and non excessive way. We used a POV shot with an eyeline match at the start to switch to luca's POV as he looks at the phone. We also used a handheld method in order to get a running shot of kai's POV when they are in the chase scene. Our running POV shot went well and came out nicely when we ran with the camera however, the camera was a bit blurry and could have been made a little clearer or perhaps been shaken less.
Shot Reverse Shot
The shot reverse shot scene was a very important part of the video as a whole because it was what set the tense mood for the whole video and also takes up the majority of the video as that is when the action all takes place. We used the shot reverse shot for this scene because it shows both of their faces and how intense they both are. Our shot reverse shot was probably our best shots in the video or the ones that came out the best in the video. The manual focus from the back of luca's head to go to kai's face in this was a really nice effect and added to his reveal as the bad guy.

Some really good explanations here Peter and strong work overall. I think you could sometimes define the terminology a little more clearly (eg 180 degree rule) and please make sure you use capital letters to begin names (eg Luca etc) and for the word 'I'. Promising work though Peter - well done.
